TORONTO July 15 (Reuters) - Bombardier Inc said on Thursday that privately owned Australian aviation company AVWest ordered four of its ultra-long-range Global Express XRS jets totaling about $213 million.

Bombardier is the world's No. 1 business jet maker. A slump in the sector in the past couple of years as a result of the economic downturn and sagging corporate profitability have pressured the company's shares.

"This order is fantastic news," Bob Horner, senior vice-president of sales for Bombardier Business Aircraft, said in a statement.

"This sale reinforces the importance of business jets as a tool to efficiently conduct business in the four corners of the world."

Perth-based AVWest offers aircraft charter service and also owns and operates the Perth Jet Centre, which provides 24-hour ground handling for all types of business aircraft.

"Our clientele is increasingly traveling to overseas destinations, including Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and now is the right time to add ultra-long-range jets to our fleet," Tim Roberts, principal at AVWest, said in a statement.

Shares of Bombardier closed at C$4.78 on Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
