SYDNEY, AUS -- Virgin Australia Ltd. said Tuesday it has agreed new three-year pay deals with its long-haul pilots and cabin crew.
Virgin Australia said 85% of its long-haul pilots voted in favor of the new agreement in a ballot, while 93% of its long-haul cabin crew approved their pay deal. It didn't state the scale of the pay increases to its long-haul staff.
"This outcome is the result of a very good and fair process for Virgin Australia, the unions and our staff," said Richard Tanner, Virgin Australia's Group Executive People.
Terry O'Connell, executive director of the Australian Federation of Air Pilots, or AFAP, said some long-haul pilots working for Virgin Australia would see their pay increase by more than 25% immediately.
"Annual increases of 4% upwards will keep the pilots salaries in line with inflation. This pilot group now sits in the mid-range of pilot terms and conditions in Australia," O'Connell said in a statement.
The AFAP is now moving to renegotiate pay agreements for Virgin Australia pilots flying domestic routes, as their existing deal is due to expire in November.
