* Hawaiian Airlines is buying an additional Airbus A330-200 and has agreed to lease two additional A321neos.

* The additional A330-200 will bring Hawaiian’s total fleet of A330s to 24 by the fourth quarter of 2017.

Hawaiian Airlines has 23 Airbus A330-200s in service and is adding another. It has leased several of its A330-200s from leasing companies

Hawaiian previously announced plans to phase in 16 new A321neos to its fleet beginning in 2017. The letters of intent Hawaiian signed with two lessors on December 5 for the delivery of two additional A321neos in early 2018 will bring its total fleet of A321neos to 18 by 2020, the carrier says.

The newly purchased and leased aircraft will enable Hawaiian Airlines to retire its fleet of Boeing 767s by the end of 2018, earlier than it had originally planned to do so, according to the airline.

Hawaiian Airlines says the three additional Airbus jets also will provide measured, sustainable growth of the carrier’s medium-haul and long-haul missions.

“The addition of these three aircraft provide for low- to mid-single-digit capacity growth over the remainder of the decade,” says Peter Ingram, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian Airlines is using its Airbus A321neos to expand the number of U.S. mainland and international destinations it serves from Hawaii and also to increase frequencies on some existing routes

“At the same time, the accelerated retirement of the Boeing 767s from our fleet will simplify our operation and allow us to be more efficient,” adds Ingram.

According to Hawaiian Airlines, the 18 long-range, single-aisle A321neos it is acquiring will complement Hawaiian’s existing fleet of 23 Airbus A330-200 widebody, twin-aisle aircraft on medium-haul routes between Hawai’i and the U.S. West Coast.

Hawaiian Airlines also operates 20 narrowbody Boeing 717-200s and three ATR 42 turboprop regional airliners on services among the Hawaiian Islands.
