Polish state-owned airlines LOT closed 2017 with revenue of PLN 280 million (EUR 67 million) from its core operation, up by PN 100 million compared to 2016.

According to the airlines' CEO RafaƂ Milczarski, the company's restructuring brought positive results, “compared to a more than PLN 46.5 million loss in 2015,”.

He added that over the last two years, LOT has launched more than 40 new connections, including long-haul flights, increased the number of passengers it services from 4.7 million i 2015 to nearly seven million in 2017, and increased its fleet by 20 new aeroplanes.

Milczarski said LOT would continue to grow and may service a record nine million passengers in 2019.

He added that LOT's main challenge was Warsaw's Chopin airport nearing capacity.

Chopin airport, currently the biggest in the country, was used by 12.8 million passengers in 2016, but projections suggest that it will run out of spare capacity in 2020 while not being able to expand any further due to its location in the capital.
