Requirements Speedbird, a helicopter start-up in Southern California is seeking a Chief Pilot to select, train and lead its team of pilots.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader possessing strong communication and flying skills and the ability to work well with others. You must be acceptable to the FAA to serve as the Chief Pilot and be experienced in overseeing flight crew training programs and employment. You will work closely with and report directly to the Director of Flight Operations. The Chief Pilot will be confident in his / her ability to develop and elicit the best in our pilots and will have experience in technical training and flight instruction. You will lead, nurture and sustain a safe and compliant flight department and must be legally eligible to live and work in the U.S.

In addition to your normal Chief Pilot duties and responsibilities, you must be willing to work flexible hours, be prepared to run a safety-centric flight department and adopt safe-work practices and SOPs with the safety and care of passengers and staff always being your highest priority.

You must:‬

• Hold an FAA ATPL(H); or
• An FAA Commercial Helicopter License;
• Have a valid 1st Class Aviation Medical Certificate;
• Be endorsed on either the S-76 or AW 139 helicopters (preferred);
• At least 3,000 hrs. TT;
• 2,000 hrs. in Multi-Engine, Multi-Crew operations;
• 500 hrs. experience on S-76, AW 139 or similar types;
• Part 135 experience (preferred);
• A valid Driver’s License;
• A valid passport; and
• At least a High School education.

We hope you have:

• Numerous turbine helicopter endorsements and experience on each;
• Instructional / Check Pilot experience is an asset;
• A current Instrument rating;
• Night flying experience is an asset;
• Flight experience in reduced visibility;
• Human Factors in aviation training;
• Cockpit Resource Management training;
• A strong knowledge of Multi-Crew SOPs; and
• Experience in creating and sustaining client relations.

Speedbird expects that you are capable of, although, not necessarily a master of flight instruction such that you can:

• Create, oversee and implement all flight crew training programs;
• Maintain proficiency as a Line Training Captain;
• Attain Check Pilot status ASAP and complete line proficiency checks on pilots;
• Administer and monitor the pilot schedule and individual flying performance;
• Issue directives and notices to flight crews as required;
• Maintain all training records;
• Monitor and process all flight crew reports; and
• Liaise with the FAA and other regulatory agencies as necessary.

Restrictions * Must hold FAA Professional Helicopter-Pilot License / Medical.
* Must be legally entitled to live and work in the USA.
