Hello there.

I am 23 years old and working at Aegean as a First Officer based in Athens Intl Airport and I currently fly the B737-300/400. At the moment we operate a mix fleet of A320, B737-300/400 and Avro RJ/146.

I started with Aegean a year ago and trained by them to fly the B737. My flying experience was limited to SEP/MEP time and I am very pleased that I fly the B737 and soon the A320.

We fly mainly to European destinations and the Greek islands. This year we'll add four new destinations; one of them will be London.

Previously the company operated B737 and Avro RJ/146 only, but now we are in the process of renewing our fleet with the A320/321 family of aircraft. The company has a firm order of 25 aircrafts which will replace the B737s and expand the fleet. By the end of 2010 the company will be operated by A320/321 and Avro RJ/146. The Avro RJ 146 are mainly used for the Greek islands and short haul destinations outside Greece.

Flying the B737 is really interesting and challenging especially when we fly to the Greek islands, all having fairly short runways, the weather conditions are different compared to other Intl airports due to the geography of the terrain.

A typical day starts 2 hours and 15 minutes before blocks off, where we meet with the Captain and the Cabin Crew for the briefing. We reach the aircraft typically one hour before departure time. We don't have a fixed roster for each month, the average flying being approximately 50-60 hours in winter season and about 70-80 in the summer season. This is due because in the summer season we operate charter flights as well.

I forgot to mention that the company has another two bases for pilots and Cabin Crew, one being in Thessaloniki and the other in Heraklion of Crete. The main base though is in Athens.

I enjoy going to work meeting new people and learning new things every single minute being in the air and on the ground while on duty.

My advice to any pilot keep searching for the first job is not to give up as I think the opportunities are there and anyone who has the right attitude will do for this job.
